Chez Jeanne Rogers – Sonatas by KLEIN • GALLIARD • PASSIONIE • SCHICKHARDT • SIEBER

£14.00 + P&P

The work of historical women is often unsung and, in many cases, has been written out of the ‘Western classical’ music history books. Between 1716 and 1722 Jeanne Roger appears on over 25 music publications and the sonatas in this recording all bear her name. At just 15 years old, she was being prepared to inherit one of Europe’s most important centres for the dissemination of music. In the 17th and 18th centuries, widows and daughters often continued the publishing or bookselling businesses after the death of the male in the family and many records list these women as ‘widow’ (veuve) or ‘heir’ rather than their full name. This recording is dedicated to Jeanne Roger and is a celebration of all those women that she represents and without whom the preservation and transmission of the music we inherit today would look very different.
