BEFORE THE GUILLOTINE – works from pre-revolutionary France

£12.00 + P&P

Music inspired by the fashion created by Corelli’s impact of violin playing in Europe, when viol players turned towards the quinton, capturing the excitement and expressivity of music that was in vogue.  And how this fashionable instrument, the quinton, was played by professional female players as well as men, up until the French Revolution. Including the sumptuous violas da gamba trio by Forqueray,  all music except the theorbo, is played on original instruments and features Corelli, Boüin, Marais, Marais/ Villeneuve, Leclair, Dandrieu, Hotteterre, Forqueray and Corrette, played on quintons, violas da gamba, cello and theorbo.
